He single handedly laid the foundation for soloing on any instrument, pioneered the art of singing and invented the scatting phenomenon. Britain’s latest jazz vocal virtuoso, Gwyn Jay Allen, is set to bring this great legend to life. In a series of tribute concerts and the launch of the musical “Satchmo” on a world wide scale, he is most certainly set to follow the legends footsteps. Not only is this unique tribute album “I Love Louis” dedicated to the late Louis, but as many people have described it Louis Armstrong reborn. Gwyn personifies both the jester and genius of Satchmo. You cant help but marvel at the likeness in both his voice and character.
Sharing the same Creole origin of the Diaspora, you come to realize that there is a far deeper historical and spiritual connection, which explains Gwyn’s special affinity to Louis. The New Orleans Creole experience of old blending with Gwyn’s West African Krio experience from his home town Freetown, Sierra Leone, is quite unique and becomes evident in his performances. The tribute album covers a good taste of Armstrong favourites, rear hits and some of Gwyn’s own songs written about Louis done in that authentic New Orleans style. They are also gems in their own right. Showing off his diversity both vocally and instrumentally, he brings out his true African heritage in a rich flavour of African drum rhythms over jazz standards.
Most people have heard the name Louis Armstrong and even some could sing a few of his tunes. Those big open eye, the smile……………..! but not many know how he thought, what made him tick, the dreams he had and the struggles he faced to get there.
Gwyn’s Jay Allen’s current “I Love Louis” Tribute Show was recently a great success in Melbourne, Australia and is set to travel the world just as Louis did.
With the help of Clarke Peters, Creator of the well known Louis Jordan musical “5 Guys Named Moe and Nat King Coles “Unforgettable” Gwyn has also penned the theatre musical “SATCHMO” which takes you through a journey that will allow you to take a look at his life through another pair of eyes…….

Gwyn’s next appearance will be his debut American performance at The Louis Armstrong Museum House in New York on the 4th July. Louis’ birthday and also The American day of Independence.
